Re-Introducing Star Quest

Recently, my daycare kids discovered an old video that my own children used to watch, Star Quest, an Adventures in Odyssey adventure by Focus on the Family. I remembered how great the videos were for my own children so I put in the old VHS tape for my daycare children to enjoy. They loved it.

The Star Quest Plot

The movie begins with two boys, the best of friends, playing in a tree house. They are having an imaginary adventure stemming from one of their favorite TV shows involving a "Captain Quirk" and a familiar starship.

They boys hear a radio broadcast involving their dear old friend and inventor, Mr. John Whittaker. The radio broadcast goes on to inform listeners that the next episode of the beloved show will be filmed in the boys own hometown. The boys' friend, Mr. Whittaker has been asked to exercise his scientific expertise as a consultant for the show.

The boys get the opportunity to meet the show's director as well as receive the opportunity to play important roles in the episode. One of the boys is asked to operate the engine of a giant robot while the other is asked to pilot the robot and provide the robot's roar.

Sal gets the coveted Pilot job while Dylan is left to operate the engine. Dylan is not happy about his assignment and feels inadequate. Mr. Whittaker explains to Dylan his important duties and expresses the importance of the job. Mr. Whittaker uses biblical principles and scriptures from the Bible to encourage Dylan and reinforce the importance of teamwork the value of every member.

Sal feels uneasy about his piloting abilities.

After a successful rehearsal and first filming, Sal becomes confident. He receives media attention for his successful performance. He is flooded with cameras and fans. One person even asked for his autograph. Sal receives instant popularity while Dylan remains unnoticed.

At the next filming, Sal is supposed to be at his pilot's station but is nowhere to be found. Dylan decides to take over because he felt the job should have been his from the beginning.

Dylan makes his way to the engine room and Sal and Dylan work together to regain control of the robot.

At the end of the show, the boys return to the tree house to continue their imaginary adventures.

The show combines science fiction, humor, adventure, and imagination with biblical principles to teach teamwork and the value of each individual.
