I remember several Presidents before him, but it is his Presidential speeches that dominate my earliest memories of watching and listening as the President of this great nation spoke to "we the people". It was during his presidency that I began to realize the value of real patriotism and the importance of keeping our nation whole, pure, strong - one nation - UNDER GOD.

President Reagan combined wisdom, truth, and humor in a way that proved his ability to charm listeners of all parties, faiths, and races. Many of his most famous words are brimming with moral wisdom, many with intentional whit and humor, almost all of them with a combination of all.

His legacy left him with at least three titles: Actor, President, and "The Great Communicator".

He was an incredible speaker, however he was also the man who sold arms illegally to our enemies, the very country that kidnapped our citizens and held them until, oddly, the day after he was elected. This is the same man who used the money from those illegal sales for an illegal war in South America, under the direct management of a known and now incarcerated drug smuggler and dictator. It was then proven in the early 90's, under Senate investigations, that the very planes that were flying arms and money for Sandanistas were bringing cocaine back in for the benefit of CIA activities. He also tripled the debt, had double digit unemployment for the majority of his first term, enacted the concept that "greed was good", deregulated the market, deregulated the environment, popped a hole in the freaking planet's ozone layer, and championed an economic structure that is even ridiculed in the earliest of economic classes as it is ridiculous in practice. Oh, and he allowed the banks to virtually run free in a just burgeoning credit market...how has that worked out. So, yeah....good speaker.

Texasbeta,

I approved your comment because, in America, everyone is free to have an opinion and express it openly. I can only hope and pray that it stays that way. I did not begin writing for Hubpages in order to generate political arguments, but to share my stories, my values, and my love for writing; but thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
