Christmas is Over, Decorate for Valentine's Day

Now that the Christmas decorations are put away, start decorating for the next major holiday, Valentine's Day. Get an early start and order online now so your decorations will arrive at your door in a timely manner. If you order now, you will have plenty of time to adorn your home with things that make your family and friends feel loved. After all, Valentine's Day doesn't have to be just for boyfriends and girlfriends, or even for husbands and wives. Valentine's Day is a great time to give your children, friends, and everyone you love a little extra attention. Realistically, we don't need a special day to let people know we love them, but since Valentine's Day is on it's way, we might as well make the most of it. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.

Valentine's Day Decorations

Set a few Valentine themed "plush pets" around the house. These don't have to be elaborate or expensive. Use a few stuffed bears, heart shaped pillows, or other Valentine themed stuffed animals. If you don't see what you need on eBay, Amazon or other online sites, you can go to your local Dollar General, Dollar Tree, or similar store and purchase them for a few dollars a piece. If you have children, these will be particularly popular and will help your family transition from the Christmas season and on to the next holiday.

The Christmas tree and Christmas ornaments might be back in your attic, basement, or closet, but you can still hang a few Valentine ornaments around. Hand little heart shaped ornaments on free standing ornament hangers and place them on an end table or coffee table. You can even hang a few lightweight ornaments from your kitchen cabinets or on door knobs.

Hang a Valentine themed wind-chime on the front porch by the door to welcome your guests. If you live in a warmer climate, you can Valentine chimes by windows. Open the windows and allow the wind to play their pleasant little tunes. If you live in colder climates, hang Valentine chimes in places where natural movement, drafts, or a ceiling fan might catch the chimes and allow you to listen to them "play."

Roses will make a great addition to any room. Purchase a few silk or plastic roses, place them in a nice vase and place them in the center of your kitchen table or on any table in any room of your house. Use red, pink, white, or an assortment of colors. Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day better than a bouquet of roses, real or not.

A Few More Ideas

Remind your "special someone" to give you a Valentine's Day kiss with a little wooden "Kiss Me" plaque. If you don't want the plaque to say "Kiss Me," try one that simply says "Be Mine."

Replace your Christmas wreath with an adorable wooden Valentine's Day Wreath. If you are not a fan of wreath's, you can hang a cute little Valentine's Day sign on or near your front door.

Interested in going all out? Order a door cover. Cover your entire door with Valentine wishes for all to see. Door covers are inexpensive and they are a great way to welcome guests into your loving, festive home. You can add matching window clings. Window clings are easy to apply and you can easily remove them without damaging your windows. If you remove them carefully enough and store them properly, you might be able to use them year after year.

Remember the paper balloon decorations used at baby showers? You can use Valentine themed ones for Valentine's Day. Whether you are hosting a big Valentine's Day party or you just want your home to say "Happy Valentine's Day" to you and your family, paper balloon decorations are an inexpensive way to decorate your home. After Valentine's Day is over, you can toss them out and order more for the next year or you can fold them up carefully, store them properly, and reuse them year after year.

Do you have a few young "tweens" or teenagers around the house who like a lot of blingy, flashy things? Add a few Valentine light sets to your Valentine's Day decor. String a few red or pink lights around a few windows or hang heart shaped tube light sets in their bedrooms for them to enjoy.

Enjoy Life

Decorating your home for different seasons and holidays helps keep your home fresh. It gives you and your family something to look forward to with each holiday that passes. It also gives you an excuse to dust your furniture and move things around a bit if you like.

You can go all out with your decorations or you can choose to simply add a few simple things here and there. Either way, decorating for various holidays can be fun so enjoy it and enjoy life.

What cute but simple ideas! Sometimes it is easy to get into a little bit of a funk after the intensity of the Christmas holidays and feel too exhausted to do anything else. However, these are all ideas that take little preparation and so would be easy to implement...good job! Voted up and useful.

I agree, Donna. I'll admit I am not much of a decorator, except for Christmas, but I have discovered that my kids, even though they are older, enjoy a few seasonal decorations around for every holiday. If I lag around, they will ask about the decorations. I think those simple little items help provide them with memories. I remember certain items always being around at my grandmother's house. The items held no monetary value, but they are priceless to me and my cousins because our grandmother just always put them out for Christmas, Easter, or other special times.

Thanks Again for reading and commenting!
