Prayer

This article is based on my sermon notes under the teachings of my pastor. I hope you find these notes inspiring.

Prayer is NOT a bargaining chip before God. It is NOT a "get rich quick scheme." It is not a wish list. It is not self-centered.

Prayer IS communication with God. Prayer is listening to God. Prayer is seeking God. Prayer is interceding for others. Prayer is the expression of dependence on God. Prayer is God-centered.

Pray in the Spirit

Pray the desires of God. Pray the motives of God. Pray with the heart of God, the will of God, and the plan of God.

How to do we do this? Allow the Holy Spirit to grow us in our relationship with Him. Read, study, and obey God's Word.

Ephesians 6:18

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Pray Continually

Praying continually keeps us from falling into temptation. Constant prayer means constantly "looking Heavenward."

Acts 1:14

They all joined together constantly in prayer along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brothers.

Acts 2:42

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.

1Thessalonians 5:17

Pray continually.

Pray For Various Things in Various Ways

The Lord gave us an example of how to pray in The Lord's Prayer. It is a wonderful example and pleases the Lord when we pray it from the heart, but simply repeating prayers time after time by "force of habit" is not personal. Prayer is personal. Prayer is God-Honoring.

Pray for these things: Wisdom, Guidance, Humility, Provision, the Gospel, and Salvation.

Our prayer lives should be led and dictated by the Holy Spirit.

Pray Persistently in the Spirit

Matthew 7:7

Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.

Pray to Intercede For Others

God has called us to pray for one another. Parents are to pray for children. Children are to pray for their parents. Husbands are to pray for their wives. Wives are to pray for their husbands. Friends are to pray for one another. The church family is to uplift one another in prayer.

We are soldiers in a great war.

We are at war for the souls of mankind.

We are at war for souls to be transformed.

We are at war for the growth and maturity of the saved.

Become a prayer warrior for Christ Jesus.
